Cheburashka Goes to the Zoo
Чебурашка идёт в зоопарк
Story through the endingGena catches a cold and cannot work his zoo shift. Cheburashka covers for him in the crocodile enclosure, reading a newspaper and posing for photographs. Visitors encounter a very unlikely crocodile until Gena returns. The joke depends on the animated world’s unusual employment rule: Gena is a crocodile who works as the zoo’s crocodile, and friendship can briefly take precedence over zoological classification.
Story & key events
Plot details and spoilers ahead.
Makoto Nakamura’s puppet adaptation appeared in Japan in 2010. Frontier Works documents a 63-minute Japanese DVD and an 80-minute Russian-language version in 2011. The Russian compilation is catalogued as 2013 by its licensed platform. Recuts and dubbing are editions, not newly invented adventures; this archive gives the circus, zoo and advice-bureau stories their own identities.
Place in the world
Japan develops two distinct forms: the 26-part 2D television series Cheburashka Arere?, beginning in October 2009, and a stop-motion feature released in 2010. The feature revisits the original meeting and adds circus and advice-bureau adventures. Different theatrical and disc editions select different segments, so a new package is not automatically a new story.
Keep five shelves separate: the books, Soviet puppet films, Japanese adaptations, new Russian animation and live action. Names and images travel between them, but events do not automatically transfer. A crocodile employee, a human grandfather and a bureau founder can be related interpretations without sharing a single life.
