A Birdhouse for a Butterfly

Скворечник для бабочки

Story through the ending

As spring approaches, the friends build birdhouses. Gena’s is so large and heavy that Cheburashka falls trying to lift it; Cheburashka’s is too small for any starling. They rename the unsuitable houses for homeless dogs and butterflies. The comic ending turns mismatched scale into an inclusive idea of shelter without claiming that these designs are realistic wildlife care.

Story & key events

A new cover, illustrator, reading exercise or abridged extract is not automatically a new story. This catalogue groups reprints under their underlying work. Dates preceded by ≤ establish that a text was available by that year; they do not claim a verified first publication.

Place in the world

The books are the first branch of the world, beginning with Eduard Uspensky’s 1966 story. People and speaking animals work, rent homes and make friends in the same town. Later texts range from gentle children’s adventures to satire about business, bureaucracy and crime; they do not form one seamless screen chronology.

Keep five shelves separate: the books, Soviet puppet films, Japanese adaptations, new Russian animation and live action. Names and images travel between them, but events do not automatically transfer. A crocodile employee, a human grandfather and a bureau founder can be related interpretations without sharing a single life.
