New Year with Cheburashka
Новый год с Чебурашкой
Partial account · needs completionGena and Cheburashka prepare a New Year celebration for kindergarten children, arranging a tree and presents and dressing as Father Frost and the Snow Maiden. Shapoklyak belongs to the celebration’s cast too. AST editions may pair this novella with New Year in Prostokvashino and add games; the neighbouring story and exercises do not create new Cheburashka plots. This book is separate from both the 2020 animated and 2024 live-action holiday shorts.
Story & key events
Plot details and spoilers ahead.
This entry records the events supported by the cited text, publisher or library synopsis. It is not yet a full chapter-by-chapter retelling. Unverified endings, exact dialogue and dates are omitted rather than supplied from assumptions.
A new cover, illustrator, reading exercise or abridged extract is not automatically a new story. This catalogue groups reprints under their underlying work. Dates preceded by ≤ establish that a text was available by that year; they do not claim a verified first publication.
Place in the world
The books are the first branch of the world, beginning with Eduard Uspensky’s 1966 story. People and speaking animals work, rent homes and make friends in the same town. Later texts range from gentle children’s adventures to satire about business, bureaucracy and crime; they do not form one seamless screen chronology.
Keep five shelves separate: the books, Soviet puppet films, Japanese adaptations, new Russian animation and live action. Names and images travel between them, but events do not automatically transfer. A crocodile employee, a human grandfather and a bureau founder can be related interpretations without sharing a single life.
