Galya
OverviewGalya is the girl who answers Gena’s notice and becomes a practical member of the friendship-building group. In the first book she is connected with a children’s theatre; her dog Tobik needs company too. Her presence shows that humans and animals can form friendships on equal terms. The newer series retains her as a neighbour who asks the bureau for help.
Story & key events
The joke is literal: Gena works as a crocodile. He is an employee, not an animal owned by the zoo, and he shares shifts with another crocodile, Valera. Off duty he reads, plays games and writes notices seeking friends. Galya and Cheburashka answer, turning an individual’s loneliness into a communal project.
Chandr is a lonely lion; Tobik is a small dog. Their friendship gives the House of Friendship its clearest proof: being unlike one another does not prevent companionship. They belong to the expanded community around the central pair, and Chandr receives additional everyday stories in the Japanese television series.
Place in the world
The House of Friendship begins as a proposed building for lonely people and animals. By working together, its builders find the friendships they were trying to provide. The important transformation happens during construction: the house becomes a sign of a community that already exists, rather than a machine that produces friends.
The new Russian animated series turns friendship into a daily service: Gena and Cheburashka open a Bureau of Good Deeds, while Shapoklyak counters with bad deeds. The familiar town acquires new neighbours and small problems to solve. This CGI continuity is distinct from both the four Soviet puppet films and the human Gena’s live-action world.
